House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., on Friday said President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw from the Paris climate pact was a "dishonor" to God and wondered how he would explain the impact to his grandchildren, The Washington Free Beacon reported Friday.
"The Bible tells us that to minister to the needs of God's creation is an act of worship," Pelosi said. "To ignore those needs is to dishonor the God who made us, and that is just what we are doing by walking away from this accord."
Pelosi made the remark at her weekly press conference, where she said Trump was turning his back on Pope Francis, who gave the president a copy of an encyclical on the dangers of climate change during a visit last week. She also wondered how Trump's grandchildren would one day breathe.
"How is he ever going to explain to his grandchildren what he did to the air they breathe, assuming they breathe air?" she said. "And, I have to assume that is the case. We all do."
Trump pulled out of the Paris climate agreement on Thursday. Pelosi also compared the president to racist segregationists during the civil rights movement, maintaining Trump was isolating the U.S. from the rest of the world. In addition, she said the decision was further evidence Trump needed to release his income tax returns, The Washington Times reported Friday.
Pelosi had choice words for Speaker of the House Paul Ryan as well, calling him "pathetic" for supporting Trump's decision, The Times reported.
"So wrong, so uninformed, so irresponsible to future generations," she said.
