The House of Representatives' Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi said the intelligence community's report on the Russian hacking is "stunning."
"It was really quite a stunning disclosure," Pelosi said to reporters Friday, The Hill reported.
The California Democrat did not offer details about the report, which intelligence officials said would be partially released to the public, possibly as early as Friday afternoon.
The briefing that Pelosi received included only seven other lawmakers: the top leaders from both the House and the Senate, and the House and Senate's intelligence committee leaders.
"I know we have to respect sources and methods. But I think that even Congress has the right to know more than they want to disclose to Congress, beyond the Gang of Eight," Pelosi said, referring to herself and those seven lawmakers.
President-elect Donald Trump, who has disputed the claims of hacking, is being briefed Friday on the issue.
"They are now briefing the president-elect, a person who has tried to discredit, disparage, and dismantle the existing intelligence community, because he doesn't like some of the things they were putting forward," the Democratic leader said.
She also called the media "accomplices" in the hacking in reporting on the emails released by WikiLeaks. She said that reporters failed to mention the source of the hacks. "You knew that. You knew it was the Russians," Pelosi said.
