House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is pressing her demand for the FBI to intensify its probe of President Donald Trump's ties to Russia following national security adviser Michael Flynn's resignation, The Hill reported.
Pelosi also reiterated a call for a bipartisan commission to investigate Russia's role in the 2016 election and its relationship with the Trump administration.
"Flynn's resignation is a reflection of the poor judgment of President Trump and demands answers to the grave questions over the president's involvement," Pelosi said in a statement on Tuesday.
She said it was critical to know "By what authority did Flynn act and to whom did he report?"
The House minority leader stressed that light must be shone on "The truth and consequences of the Russia connection," because "The American people deserve to know the full extent of Russia's financial, personal and political grip on President Trump and what that means for our national security."
Before he had announced his resignation, Pelosi had said over the weekend that Flynn should be suspended from his post while the FBI reviewed his contacts with Russia.
In the statement, she said that "The President and his National Security Advisor have given the Russians the impression that whatever they do, they are not to worry, because the Trump White House will not stand against their aggression."
