House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi accused Republicans of dishonoring God by their efforts to repeal and replace Obamacare, calling on them to "examine their consciences and look into their hearts."
"I know my colleagues are people of faith," the California Democrat said on Tuesday, The Washington Free Beacon reports. "They tell us that all the time.
"So, this is God's creation, we have a real responsibility to it.
"To minister to the needs of God's creation is an act of worship," she said. "To ignore those needs is to dishonor the God who made us."
Pelosi, 77, who has attributed her support of gay marriage and related issues to her Catholic faith, said that Republicans were ignoring "those needs."
She called on her GOP colleagues to fully examine the healthcare legislation currently in the Senate and consider the plight of American families as they debate it.
"So, from our faith, from our responsibility and community in our country to acknowledging that we are all one family in our country, it is very important that our colleagues not only read the bill, but examine their consciences and look into their hearts, and maybe look into the eyes of these families, and maybe make a decision in favor of what is right," she said.
