House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., will head up a delegation of House Democrats on a trip to the Middle East that begins this weekend, Politico reports.
Pelosi will make stops in Israel and Jordan, along with 10 of her Democratic colleagues, including ranking House Intelligence Committee member Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., and Reps. Jim Himes and Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut, Jan Schakowsky of Illinois, Henry Cuellar of Texas, Hakeem Jeffries of New York and Katherine Clark of Massachusetts.
"There is no greater political accomplishment in the 20th century than the establishment of the State of Israel. Our delegation is pleased to be able to extend the congratulations of the American people to the people of Israel as we celebrate the 70th anniversary of Jewish state this spring," the minority leader said in a statement from her office, which said that the trip will focus on "global and regional security and cooperation issues."
"In Jordan, our delegation travels at a vital time in the U.S. relationship with this key ally," Pelosi added. "Members are particularly interested in reviewing the Syrian refugee and humanitarian challenges as well as addressing other critical challenges facing the region."
