A new study released by the Brookings Institution finds that Mitt Romney’s Mormon faith may help him in the fall election. The authors of the study said that Romney’s religion “poses little threat” to his chances and may even help among conservatives,
The Washington Post’s Election 2012 blog reported.
The authors, Brookings fellow Matthew Chingos and University of Mississippi assistant professor Michael Henderson, report that “information about the LDS church and Mr. Romney’s affiliation with it poses little threat to his electoral prospects, even among evangelical Christians” and add that “in fact, messages about Romney’s religion may even boost his support among conservatives,” the Post reported.
The two conducted an online survey of 2,084 respondents, including 16 percent white evangelical Christians. However, the two caution that the survey was “not based on a nationally representative sample” and was conducted online, the Post noted.
