Conservative author and TV personality Monica Crowley, who was picked by President-elect Donald Trump to handle strategic communications for the National Security Council, has withdrawn after she was accused of plagiarism, The Washington Times reported Monday.

The Associated Press, citing an unnamed transition official, not authorized to speak publicly, confirmed the report.

Crowley would have reported to prospective National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.

The accusations stem from a CNN report that cited more than 50 instances of plagiarism in her 2012 book, "What the (Bleep) Just Happened?" Her publisher, HarperCollins, pulled the book off sale last week.

"After much reflection, I have decided to remain in New York to pursue other opportunities and will not be taking a position in the incoming administration," she said in a statement. "I greatly appreciate being asked to be part of President-elect Trump's team, and I will continue to enthusiastically support him and his agenda for American renewal."
