Mississippi House Speaker Philip Gunn announced on Facebook Sunday that he has tested positive for the coronavirus.
Gunn, who decided to get tested after being in close proximity with a fellow House member who recently contracted the coronavirus, said he does not have severe symptoms and will self-quarantine for the required amount of time.
The Republican also urged all Mississippians to follow the health guidelines to prevent the spread of the coronavirus
“I feel very fortunate that I don’t really have very many symptoms,” Gunn said.
He added that he has informed everyone that he can recall that he was in close proximity with in the past week to tell them he has tested positive.
The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 226 positive coronavirus tests Sunday and five deaths from complications related to the virus, according to Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal.
