President Donald Trump has "renewed the American dream," Vice President Mike Pence said Saturday, and Democrats threaten that vision because they see the November elections as a "do-over."

"After eight years of a static economy, stagnant wages and being told that no growth is the new normal, this president has started a great American comeback," Pence said at the closing dinner of the annual meeting of the Faith & Freedom Coalition in Washington.

"After eight years of retreat, America's advancing because President Donald Trump has restored American strength at home and abroad."

Saturday's dinner ended the coalition's three-day meeting at the Omni Shoreham Hotel.

Other speakers during the gathering included Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Speaker Paul Ryan, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Health and Human Services Secretary Ben Carson.

Looking to the November midterms, Pence said Democrats have been focusing on the elections "since around 3 a.m. on Nov. 9, 2016."

"They are hard at it, so we must be," he said.

"You don’t have to wonder what would happen if Nancy Pelosi became speaker of the House again," added Pence, who was in the chamber from 2001 to 2013 before he was elected Indiana's governor.

"I was there the last time it happened. I know what I'm talking about."

The vice president called the midterms a "choice."

"It is a choice between resistance and renewal. It is a choice between obstruction and optimism.

"It is a choice between an America of failed ideas and faltering will — or of an America of faith, freedom and renewed greatness.

"I know America will make the right choice again."
