Sen. Mike Lee: Sessions Will Be a Good Attorney General

(MSNBC)

By    |   Wednesday, 11 January 2017 11:53 AM EST

Sen. Mike Lee said Wednesday he has no doubt that Sen. Jeff Sessions, his colleague over the past six years, will make a good attorney general, even though there are issues in which they disagree.

"I found him to be unique in the Senate and he shows respect to every colleague," Lee told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" program, before the Alabama Republican's hearings were to resume.

New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker is to speak out against Sessions on Wednesday, and Lee said he is not sure what the Democratic opponent will say.

"I work closely with Sen. Booker," Lee said. "He and I teamed up on legislation, and I consider him a friend and I look forward to what he has to say. I am not sure what he is going to say, whether he is going to speak broadly or specifically. It would surprise me if he came with a personal attack, and I am looking forward to the testimony and I am not sure what it's going to include."

Meanwhile, Lee said that he, like many Americans, is looking forward to seeing what Trump can accomplish.

"He has won the election, and I think we need to give him the opportunity to step in and to do good things for the American people, to return power back to the people where it has been taken away from them," said Lee, whose name has been mentioned in connection with a future Supreme Court nomination. "I am optimistic, and ready to do my job from the legislative branch."
