Mike Huckabee says President Barack Obama is making surgeons perform sex-change operations against their religious beliefs and medical expertise — procedures he believes could be harmful to patients.
The former Arkansas governor and GOP presidential candidate points to a lawsuit filed by Kansas, Kentucky, Nebraska, Texas and Wisconsin and groups representing 17,000 physicians.
The Christian Post reports that the federal lawsuit was launched to combat new Affordable Care Act regulations that require doctors to "ignore their medical expertise and religious convictions and perform gender transition services and procedures."
The regulation, "Nondiscrimination in Health Programs and Activities," was published in May by the Department of Health and Human Services.
"President Obama has overstepped his powers and ordered a group of people to do something even if it’s against both their better judgment and their religious beliefs, and a group of states has filed a lawsuit seeking to block it," Huckabee writes on his Facebook page.
"[This] involves Obama forcing doctors to perform sex-change operations. Is that really an operation you'd want to have performed by someone who's there under duress?"
