Rep. Mike Conaway, R-Texas, who is heading the House's Russia investigation, wants an official White House response to his request for any recordings of President Donald Trump's conversations with former FBI Director James Comey, Politico is reporting.
His comments came despite these tweets from Trump on Thursday:
But Conaway said he does not consider Trump's tweets an adequate response. Conaway and Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., had requested any tapes two weeks ago and gave the White House until June 23 to respond, Politico said.
Trump raised the possibility of tapes of his conversations with Comey last month, The Washington Post noted. But for over five weeks, White House officials had refused to say whether the tapes did exist, the newspaper said.
