Bachmann Camp Now Taking Silent Approach

Tuesday, 21 June 2011 10:29 AM EDT

Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., and her team are learning the value of message discipline. Following her strong performance at the GOP debate, Bachmann and company have gone silent, The Washington Post reported.

Since being elected in 2006, Bachmann has been anything but silent, often stirring things up with incendiary comments. By going dark, Bachmann can avoid a misstep that might slow any momentum she gained with her performance, the Post reported.

“We need Mrs. Bachmann out front and we need the campaign to be a real campaign with one spokesperson and a disciplined message,” a Bachmann adviser told the Post. The next step for Bachmann is to keep up the discipline and avoid such things as suggesting the battles of Lexington and Concord were fought in New Hampshire instead of Massachusetts.

Such errors are common in presidential campaigns, but Bachmann will be put to a tougher test because of past misstatements. A storyline that she is prone to straying off message is a dangerous one for her, the Post reported.
