Rep. Waltz: Susan Rice as VP Would Be 'Slap in the Face'

Rep. Michael Waltz, who served as a Green Beret for several years, said Monday he was "on the front lines" during former President Barack Obama's national security adviser Susan Rice's time in office, and he believes that because of her "poor judgment and bad policy" the country would be in danger if she became Joe Biden's vice president.

"She would be bad for our military and dangerous for this country," the Florida Republican said on Fox News' "Fox and Friends." "I had to lead the search for Bowe Bergdahl where men died looking for him. He abandoned his unit. And then to see Susan Rice declaring him a hero who served with honor and distinction after all of that was just a slap in the face for me, and it was a slap in the face for everyone who was out there looking for him."

But the bigger picture, he said, is that Rice had a problem of "tying our hands" when "refusing to call a terrorist a terrorist, calling them an extremist instead, and year after year of cutting the military's budget. She would move our foreign policy backward, not forward."

At the end of the day, he added, "she, Biden, Obama, they see America as a big part of the problem, not a part of the solution."

Further, the Obama administration's strategy was to "pull back and apologize," but "we cannot have that with the kind of threats we're facing around the world, with China trying to become a world power, again, Russia invading Crimea, Ukraine, all of those issues were born under her and the Obama administration."

And, he added, "let's not forget Benghazi and that debacle," referring to her appearances on several television shows where she blamed the fatal Libya attacks on reaction to an anti-Muslim film. "It would just be a total debacle to have her as vice president, and, again, a slap in the face."
