Director Michael Moore took to Twitter on Wednesday to blast Texas for rescinding its mask requirement, and saying the state no longer needed "our precious vaccine."

Moore tweeted:

"Texas – we hear you. You didn't want to be part of our electrical grid. And now you've removed your mask mandate & are allowing large crowds to gather. We hear you! COVID is a hoax! So u don't need our precious vaccine. We'll send it to ppl who are saving lives by wearing masks."

In a similar vein, left-wing commentator and onetime sportscaster Keith Olbermann insisted in a Tuesday tweet that Texans should not get the coronavirus vaccine because of the state's Republican-led policies.

He tweeted:

"Why are we wasting vaccinations on Texas if Texas has decided to join the side of the virus?"

Moore went on social media the day after Gov. Greg Abbott announced it was "time to reopen Texas 100%" and do away with a statewide mask mandate that had been implemented amid the COVID-19 pandemic, per the New York Post.

Less than an hour following his first tweet, which quickly was "ratioed" by responses calling the remarks insensitive, Moore posted three more tweets:

"2. Yes, we must and will find a way to vaccinate the poor and people of color in Texas. To Texans who say, hey, it's not me – it's the Governor! Well, then, impeach and remove him. We're tired of this. Don't mess with Texas? Happy to oblige."

"3. Btw - Houston is the first city in the country to record the presence of ALL the new variants of the coronavirus. The rest of us must find a way to protect ourselves from the policies and politicians of Texas."

"4. Texas is no longer majority white. The 57% majority is Latinx and Black and Asian and Native American. So let's do everything we can to help that majority remove the bigots and ignoramuses from office. It's killing them, and it's killing us."

The "Bowling for Columbine" director was ripped by people with various political beliefs after saying Texans did not deserve the vaccine.

"Millennial TX resident here and always vote blue. Give up on our leaders, not us please," one person wrote. "A lot of us are mortified by this, and will keep doing all of the safety mitigation's we have been since Mar 2020. We didn't elect these ppl with out the help of heavy gerrymandering."

"There are more Democrats in Texas than there are total populations in most states. You're generally pretty idiotic and have recently tacked to a new career of being professionally and embarrassingly wrong, but this is a new level. Congrats!" another person tweeted.

Texas became the largest and most populous state to lift the mask mandate orders. Others that have done similar include Mississippi, North Dakota, Montana, and Iowa.

Abbott's decision has been criticized by many people, including Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky.

"I think we at the CDC have been very clear that now is not the time to release all restrictions," Walensky said Wednesday during a briefing.

"The next month or two is really pivotal with how this pandemic goes as we scale up vaccinations, we really do need to decrease the amount of the virus that is circulating as we are trying to vaccinate all of the public."
