Mia Love, the Utah mayor who hopes to become the first black woman Republican elected to Congress, says Democrats are willing to throw all of the American people “under the bus” just to get higher-income earners to pay more taxes.
“What they’re doing is they are taking the poor, they are taking everyone who is working, and they’re throwing them under the bus by not allowing them to have a job,” Love told Fox News’ Sean Hannity Monday night.
The mayor of Saratoga Springs, Utah, was referring to Democratic threats to allow the so-called Bush tax cuts enacted in 2001 and 2003 to expire unless Republicans agree to raise taxes on the nation’s wealthiest.
She called that scenario a job killer, saying it force businesses across the country to cut workforces.
“What happens if we continue to impose tax upon tax, and impose this Obamacare tax on them,” Love said. “What is going to happen to the people that are working for these companies? They will no longer have a job.”
Love said Republicans should focus on making “the moral case” for change in November and not talk about “facts and figures all the time.”
“I think we need to talk about the fact that we are literally stealing from our children to pay for the present,” she said.
“They won’t have the same opportunities that we’ve had because they are going to have the $16 trillion debt looming over their heads,” Love added.
She said the difference between Republicans and President Barack Obama couldn’t be more stark.
“The hope and change he talks about lies in federal government. The hope and change we would like to see happen lies in people,” she said.
