Protests in connection with the Breonna Taylor case in Louisville, Kentucky, along with unrest in cities such as Portland, Chicago, and New York City are "planned, orchestrated events," House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy claimed Thursday while calling on the FBI to focus on investigating antifa.
"People cannot be safe and secure in their own streets," the California Republican said on Fox News' "Fox and Friends." "You probably saw the video of the U-Haul truck being unloaded with shields and riot gear and anti-police signs ... it looks like this was coordinated — this particular protest."
Protests in Louisville turned violent Wednesday after a grand jury did not indict any of the three police officers involved in Taylor's death. One ex-officer has been charged with wanton endangerment for allegedly shooting his weapon and causing shots to enter Taylor's neighbor's apartment.
McCarthy also dismissed comments from FBI Director Christopher Wray, who said during congressional testimony that antifa is not a group or organization, but an ideology.
"Who rented that U-Haul?" said McCarthy. "Who is funding this? You can't just supply people with this type of armor without resources, without funding. Where is that funding coming from and why is it being used? How are these people knowing to come? Are there training facilities that are teaching these people how to do this?"
McCarthy also called on Democrat nominee Joe Biden to speak out more about finding out who is behind the protests.
