Rep. Waters: Trump Advisers With Russia Ties 'Bunch of Scumbags'

MSNBC's "All In"

Congresswoman Maxine Waters, D-Calif., called President Donald Trump's advisers who have connections with Russia "a bunch of scumbags ... Who are all organized around making money," on MSNBC's "All In" Tuesday.

"I just think the American people had better understand what's going on. This is a bunch of scumbags. That's what they are. Who are all organized around making money," she said.

Waters did not mention any of Trump's advisers by name, but when pressed by host Chris Hayes on if she meant Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, she said, "Tillerson is there to get these sanctions lifted."

"I believe it, just watch him. He's gonna continue to work on it. This is important for him. He was there because he negotiated the deal with Exxon, with [Russian President Vladimir] Putin."

She added that Tillerson is part of the "Kremlin clan" in Trump's administration.

"Why does he like Putin so much?" Waters asked. "Why does he defend them? And I think it's all connected to what I call the Kremlin clan. All of these people around him that are connected to oil and gas in the Kremlin and Ukraine. It's all about them. Just think about it. Manafort, his campaign manager, and who had to leave because it was determined that he had connections to the Kremlin and to the Ukraine and whether you're talking about him or Roger Stone or some of the others, they are all about oil and gas and they thought that if they elected Trump, that somehow they were going to have someone friendly to them that would help lift these sanctions and this Kremlin clan are all going to benefit from it."

Waters has repeatedly mentioned a desire to see Trump impeached, though she denies calling for his impeachment yet.

"I have not called for the impeachment yet," she said in a news conference, according to CNN. "He's doing it himself."

"This man is questionable," she said later on CNN's "Newsroom." "And because we have suspicions — many of us — about who he is, where he came from, what his actions are, and all of his conflicts ... we have to find out more about him and some of that leads to the possibility of impeachment."
