Poll: Majority of Md. Voters Say Democrat O’Malley Would Be a Bad President

There has been a lot of talk about Maryland Democratic Gov. Martin O’Malley running for president in 2016, but only 22 percent of registered voters in his state think he would make a good president, according to a new poll from The Washington Post.

That compares to 62 percent who don’t think he’d make a good president. Even among Democrats, only 32 percent say he would make a good president.

Meanwhile, O’Malley’s approval rating fell below 50 percent for the first time in The Post’s poll – to 49 percent. A total of 41 percent of voters disapprove of him. O’Malley was first elected in 2006 and will have to leave office in 2015 under Maryland’s term limits.

O’Malley has raised his national profile over the past year, traveling extensively as chairman of the Democratic Governors Association and appearing frequently on Sunday TV talk shows.
