Border security has to be part of immigration reform or else “every town is a border town and every state is a border state,” Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., said Friday in an interview with Fox News’ Jon Scott on the “America’s Newsroom.”

In the interview Blackburn, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, applauded President Donald Trump’s  proposed immigration plan – and well as legislation to deal with the crisis at the border introduced by Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.

But border security must become a priority, she said.

“Until we secure that southern border and end all the trafficking of drugs and human beings and gangs and the sex trafficking, until we do that, every town is a border town and every state is a border state,” she said.

“As we have talked with law enforcement officers from our communities this week, during National Police Week, one of the things they have mentioned to us is … the negative impact on our communities that the open border on the southern border is having.”

She said legislation she’s introducing will focus on an “information sharing provision” between the Departments of Homeland Security and Health and Human Services when it comes to children being brought into the country.

“The last thing we want to do is to see a child turned over to a labor gang or a sex gang or into an MS-13 gang,” she said. “Protecting these children is paramount”
