Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, said he is disappointed by Twitter's failure to turn over additional information to aid in the panel's investigation into Russia's meddling in the 2016 presidential election, The Hill is reporting.

The panel had met with representatives of Facebook, Google and Twitter last year. The three companies were to turn over information regarding election interference attempts by the Moscow-linked Internet Research Agency on Monday. Only Facebook and Google met the deadline, the website noted.

Twitter has asked for an extension and is expected to comply in a matter of weeks, The Hill reported.

"I'm disappointed," Warner said. "I've been disappointed throughout this. Twitter has been often times the slowest to respond. Most of their work was derivative to the Facebook work. The other companies met the deadline which was way over a month from when they testified.

"I would not be satisfied with (getting the information) within the next couple of weeks. I wanted it by the deadline."

Axios had noted Warner had ripped Twitter in September for "inadequate" response to questions from committee staff members.

And Warner told the website: "Facebook and Google met the deadline, and [with] voluminous amounts of information, Twitter did not. I'm disappointed in Twitter."
