CBP Chief Morgan: Biden Sent 'Very Clear' Message to Immigrants

(Fox News' "America's Newsroom")

President-elect Joe Biden has sent a "very clear" message to migrants who are pushing their way from Central America to the U.S. southern border, Mark Morgan, the acting commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, said Tuesday.

"[Biden] wanted to undo and roll back every single effective policy and authority that President [Donald] Trump gave us that allowed us to address the illegal immigration crisis, secure our borders, and protect the American people," Morgan told Fox News' "America's Newsroom."

Biden has pledged to place a 100-day moratorium on deportations, which will reverse some of Trump's policies, and that is why massive immigrant caravans have formed, Morgan said.

"The Biden administration said our borders are open and he's creating incentives and pull factors," Morgan commented. "It's not just about stopping deportations for 100 days; it's about giving them amnesty for millions of people; it's about giving people who remain here illegally free healthcare."

He pointed out the "migrants themselves are actually quoting Biden, saying we've got 100 days to get to the U.S. border."

Biden has promised a suspension of deportations by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and a pathway to legal permanent residency for those already in the country.

"This caravan now of thousands is just a microcosm of what's coming," Morgan said.

Meanwhile, an unnamed Biden transition official said migrants "need to understand they're not going to be able to come into the U.S. immediately," NBC News reported.
