House impeachment managers are not only making false statements, but they are "intentionally misleading the American people," Rep. Mark Meadows, one of eight GOP lawmakers picked by President Donald Trump to defend him in the ongoing impeachment trial, said Thursday.

"They are cherry-picking certain parts of testimony, and it's all built on their narrative to try and impugn the facts of the case," the North Carolina Republican told Fox News' "America's Newsroom."

"This is like 'Groundhog Day.' The only difference is Bill Murray's days kept getting better. Adam Schiff's are not getting any better."

He added that Americans must understand that "everything the House impeachment managers are going to say today is going to be based on second and thirdhand knowledge.

"There are no firsthand witnesses," said Meadows. "You know why? Those firsthand witnesses actually have exonerated the president of the United States. So we are going to continue to hear allegations of coverups."

However, he added that the only coverup he's seen is that of Schiff, the House Intelligence Committee chairman, and his team "on their coordination with the whistleblower" whose report spurred the investigation into Trump.

He also rejected calling further witnesses, including former national security adviser John Bolton, to testify.

"They are going on a fishing expedition hoping they can find something because their case is so flawed," said Meadows of the Democrats' push. "If we are going to hear from additional witnesses, I am over here on the House side. That's the House's job to do the investigations."

He also said he does not expect a "witness exchange" that would allow for Bolton to testify in exchange for Hunter Biden to be brought in, and that he wants to compliment his Senate colleagues.
