Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King of Maine on Monday said they support a ban on the sale of firearms to people on federal terror "watch lists."
Collins, a Republican, said Monday she believes those on the Transportation Security Administration's "No Fly List" should be prohibited from buying guns, the
Portland Press-Herald reports.
And King, an Independent, said: "I don't know why we have a process that would not allow people to buy a ticket for an airplane, but would allow them to buy a gun."
The renewed push for gun-purchase restrictions comes following the slaughter of 49 people at an Orlando nightclub early Sunday morning. The gunman had recently pledged his allegiance to the Islamic State.
Last year, the Senate voted on a measure to prevent those on "watch lists" from legally purchasing firearms, but Senate Republicans defeated the measure.
