Hillary Clinton and President Barack Obama were cowards and their inaction led to the death of U.S. ambassador Chis Stevens in Benghazi, his former fiancee wrote.

In an op-ed for CNS News, Lydie Denier slammed the Obama administration — which includes Clinton, who served as secretary of state from 2009 to 2013.

"President Barack Obama and then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's choice to sit still, leaving Americans alone, entirely on their own to fend for themselves in Benghazi, will go down in history as a singular act of cowardice," she wrote.

"The choice was Secretary Clinton's to make: either scrap the mission or improve the security, but do not desert your countrymen who it is your duty to protect, leaving your most important asset in a meat grinder to die."

Stevens and three other Americans died in a 2012 terror attack in the Libyan city. Critics have long said that Clinton ignored Stevens' requests to send more security to protect the consulate, which was attacked the night of Sept. 11, 2012.

Denier was once engaged to Stevens but the pair was not together at the time of the attack.

"Because Chris did not die in combat, the media has depicted him as a victim — not a hero. But Chris Stevens was indeed a hero," Denier wrote. "He was the first American on the ground in Tripoli when the United States re-established diplomatic relations with General Muammar Gaddafi in 2002, and he was the first American on the ground to meet with rebel leaders plotting to overthrow the despised dictator on April 5, 2011.

"Chris's murder got the attention of the world, and the Benghazi attack remains a hot media topic that is once again making daily headlines. The story continues to revolve around politicians protecting themselves, yet Chris's contributions to his country have been forgotten."

Denier recently published a book called "A Voice for Ambassador Chris Stevens."
