It is "terribly embarrassing" that Congress went home for its summer recess while leaving Obamacare in place and not touching tax code reform legislation, and if something not done, Senate Republicans will lose their majority, Rep. Louie Gohmert said Tuesday.
"This is is something that everybody, most everybody, in the Senate that is a Republican ran on, that we're going to repeal," the Texas Republican told Fox News' "Fox & Friends."
People are saying that the Obamacare repeal legislation is dead, and that Congress must move on to tax reform, but Gohmert pointed out that there are too many people hurting from Obamacare.
"I'm back in Texas, and I'm hearing from people all over," said Gohmert. "'We are hurting, please, you've got to do something. You guys promised to do something to repeal Obamacare.'"
Congress still needs to do that, and Gohmert said it's "garbage" that the Senate believes its majority is safe.
"I know that this is what's being said, all the Senate is safe. They will pick up seats," Gohmert said. "Garbage. If the Senate does not repeal Obamacare, at least most of it, they will lose the majority in the Senate."
If tax and healthcare reform are accomplished, however, the business community "can take off," said Gohmert.
"They can start hiring like never before," he said. "We can bring jobs back to America. You know, the factory jobs, the production of things that we need to defend ourselves on our own soil. It's fine that China sends us tires and wheels to put on our Humvees, but we need to make those things here. We've got to."
