Sen. Lindsey Graham said Sunday he’d urge President Donald Trump to get Senate approval for any deal negotiated with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

In an interview on CBS News’ “Face The Nation,” the South Carolina Republican hailed the June 12 meeting between the two leader as an “historic opportunity.”

“I would urge the president, if he can negotiate an agreement with Kim Jong Un, that he takes that agreement and sends it to the Senate. I think that would be good thing to do. This is an historic opportunity, but if the past is any indication of the future, you got to watch North Korea like a hawk.

“I do believe they're at the table because they see a different person in Donald Trump” he continued. “They believe if he had to, Trump would use military force, China certainly believes that.”

He also said helping North Korea achieve prosperity if they denuclearize would be “the best money we ever spent.”

“If you could really get North Korea to give up its nuclear program, there would be lot of support in Congress to give North Korea better life, provide aid…”

Graham said though he believes troops should remain in South Korea, the ultimate decision would remain with Trump should there be a diplomatic agreement with the North.

"Stay in South Korea to stabilize the region. China is moving around. Stay close to our allies in Asia,” Graham advised. “But if you had a peace treaty that ended the Korean war, a verifiable agreement where North Korea gave up" its missile program, "I'd leave it up to the president” if he wants to reduce troops, he said.
