Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., is not taking Donald Trump's dig to heart.

"I want to help the president-elect be a good president," Graham told Politico on Wednesday after Trump took another verbal jab at him in his first press conference since the summer.

"The campaign's over, as far as I'm concerned," Graham said. "I would hope he'd want to work with Congress in a bipartisan fashion to push back against Russia, because they're really up to no good."

Trump, in response to a reporter's question about legislation proposed by Graham and other lawmakers that would levy additional sanctions against Russia, said he had been competing with the senator "for a long time."

"He is going to crack that 1 percent barrier one day," Trump said. "I didn't realize Lindsey Graham is still at it."

Graham said the bill was not a dig at Trump, but one to keep Russia in line.

"It's not about undermining his legitimacy," Graham said. "It's about deterring future Russian bad actors out there."

Last week during the Senate Armed Services Committee hearing, Graham criticized Trump for criticizing the intelligence community regarding Russia.

"I want the president-elect to know it's OK to challenge the Intel, you're right to do so," Graham said during the hearing. "But what I don't want you to do is undermine those who are serving our nation in this arena until you're absolutely sure they need to be undermined. And I think they need to be uplifted, not undermined."
