After ripping President Donald Trump's worldwide tariffs plan earlier this month, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., tweeted support for Trump's targeted tariffs against China as "long overdue."
Sen. Graham also issued a statement on Trump's China tariffs, which continued:
"I want to congratulate him for carrying out yet another campaign promise to push back against China for their unfair trade practices. If we continue this policy, China will over time change the way they do business which will be a Godsend for the American worker.
"It's important we separate how we treat the Chinese — whose unfair and illegal trading practices have cost our nation jobs — versus our allies who trade and play by the rules. The Chinese are in a class by themselves and should be treated as such."
President Trump announced Thursday he would impose about $50 billion worth of annual tariffs on China for stealing intellectual property and unfair trade practices.

Despite Graham's support, the U.S. stock market was less enthusiastic of a potential trade war with China. The major indexes of the Dow Jones, S&P 500, and NASDAQ were all down around 2 percent or more in afternoon trading.
