Sen. Mike Lee , R-Utah, said Sunday the Trump administration did not brief him and other members of Congress that Iran was allegedly plotting attacks on four U.S. embassies.

In an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Lee also said he hasn’t been able to assess just how imminent the feared attacks were that triggered the Jan. 3 strike that killed Iran’s top military leader, Qassem Soleimani.

“I believe that the briefers and the president believe that they had a basis for concluding that there was an imminent attack,” he said. “It’s just frustrating to be told that and not get the details behind it.”

He added he was “worried” about the integrity and justification of the deadly attack.

“I am worried as a United States senator, and as a voter and citizen,” he said. “I have learned not to simply take the federal government's word at face value.”

He added: “Not to say the government is always lying or that they’re evil… [the government] is human, these things happen….members of Congress do need to be apprised of the information underlying a particular decision.”
