Former GOP Ohio Gov. John Kasich warned Sunday that Democrats shouldn’t ignore Ohio in the 2020 election, pointing out “table issues” are what matters to voters in the red state.

In an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Kasich said the strength of the economy and healthcare are vital matters to Ohio residents.

“If [a presidential candidate is] going to win, it’s all table issues,” he said.

“Right now, I don’t hear a lot of that” from Democrats, he added, noting in particular talk by progressive Democratic candidates about Medicare For All, and ending private coverage, “scares”  voters.

“The country is basically center right, center left,” Kasich said.

“At the end, it’s about what happens when people are sitting around the dinner table,” he said.

He also advised fellow Republicans in Congress to take note of their place in history during any impeachment process of President Donald Trump.

"Look in the mirror and figure out how you want to be remembered later and how you feel about yourself today. There's nothing wrong with telling the truth and sharing your real feelings,” he said, adding there should be a vote on an inquiry in the House.

“We want to get established …if there’s was a quid pro quo,” he said of Trump’s pressure on Ukraine to investigate corruption, including by Joe Biden and son Hunter.

“It’s dead wrong for the president to ever talk to another leader to bring up dirt on a political opponent, it’s just dead wrong,” he said.
