Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., who held a fundraiser on Martha's Vineyard last year, is reportedly returning next week to headline a reception, fueling speculation about her presidential ambitions.

Harris will attend an event hosted by her sister, Maya Harris — a former top policy adviser to Hillary Clinton — and her husband, Tony West, BuzzFeed News reported, citing three unnamed sources.

"I think the excitement here signals that black women are poised to harness our political power to catapult a black woman to the White House," Glynda Carr, a prominent political operative and cofounder of Higher Heights for America, which works to get black women elected to office, told BuzzFeed News.

One unnamed Democratic donor told the outlet Harris is gaining steam as either a nominee for president or vice president.

"It's hard not to look at her and not see the history you can make," Democratic strategist Jarrod Loadholt told BuzzFeed News. "That alone will be very attractive to a lot of people."

According to BuzzFeed, at least half a dozen groups and national figures running for office — including Georgia Democratic gubernatorial nominee Stacey Abrams and Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum, who is making a bid to be Florida's first black governor — are hosting receptions and fundraisers on the island off the coast of Massachusetts for politically connected donors ahead of primaries and the November midterms.
