Julie Swetnick, the third woman to accuse Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct, was once represented by the law firm run by the attorney representing Christine Blasey Ford, The Wall Street Journal reports.
Ford testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee about her accusation on Thursday. Swetnick, who is currently being represented by attorney Michael Avenatti, claims to have witnessed Kavanaugh “engage in highly inappropriate conduct,” including grabbing women “without their consent,” at parties in the early 1980’s.
According to the Journal, Katz, Marshall & Banks, LLP, which was co-founded by Ford’s lawyer Debra S. Katz, represented Swetnick in a sexual-harassment complaint that she filed against her former employer, New York Life Insurance Co., which was ultimately settled. The insurance company told the Journal that Swetnick worked there from 2006 to 2008, though that job is not listed on a résumé of hers that the newspaper found online.
Avenatti said on Tuesday that he has extensively vetted Swetnick’s allegations, and that he would “put my vetting process up against [President] Donald Trump’s vetting process any day of the week.”
