The Russian trolls indicted by special counsel Robert Mueller had one political pundit they favored above all others: MSNBC’s liberal host Joy Reid, the news site Law and Crime reported Tuesday.
NBC News last week posted a database of more than 200,000 tweets that Twitter has tied to "malicious activity" from Russia-linked accounts during the 2016 presidential election, finding President Donald Trump’s verified Twitter account received 578 such retweets from the Russia trolls during the 2016 election cycle, Law and Crime reported.
Reid logged almost half that, the outlet reported.
According to an analysis of the raw data by Law and Crime, Reid, whom The New York Times dubbed the “heroine of the Resistance” movement, logged 267 total retweets by the private sector Russian trolls.
The next closest pundit-of-favor was Sean Hannity of Fox News, though he only got a handful, Law and Crime reported.
Reid, the host of MSNBC’s “AM Joy,” has been all-in with the Russia-is-not-our-friend narrative, though she was skewered for tweeting that Russia is communist.
Reid also last year criticized Sen. Bernie Sanders and his presidential supporters for repeating claims of Democratic National Committee fraud as little more than a Russian plot.
Sanders logged 27 retweets to his official Senate account, @SenSanders, by the Russia-based trolls — triggering a wave of hand-wringing from Vox, Politico and USA Today, the outlet noted.
All in all, Reid was elevated by Russian trolls above Sanders by a ratio of roughly 5-to-1, Law and Crime reported.
