Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., is still leading the Senate Armed Services Committee despite being at home in Arizona since December as he receives treatment stemming from his brain cancer diagnosis last year.

According to Roll Call, Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla., told C-SPAN for an upcoming edition of "Newsmakers" that McCain, who chairs the committee, is still very much in the loop.

"He's calling the shots, and I'm showing up [for hearings]," Inhofe said. "Yes, I'm chairing the meetings, but we're chairing the meetings . . . consistent with what John feels we should be doing. In fact, actually deciding on what hearings we're having, that's a decision that's coming out of the chairman, who is John McCain."

Inhofe is the No. 2 Republican on the panel and has been leading hearings in McCain's absence.

McCain traveled to Arizona in December to undergo physical therapy after he experienced side effects from his chemotherapy treatments.

McCain was diagnosed last summer with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer that killed former Sen. Ted Kennedy and the son of former Vice President Joe Biden, Beau Biden.
