Sen. Kennedy: Kavanaugh, Ford Hearing an 'Intergalactic Freak Show'

Sen. Kennedy: Kavanaugh, Ford Hearing an 'Intergalactic Freak Show'

By    |   Friday, 28 September 2018 01:43 PM EDT

Sen. John Kennedy, as a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said Friday that all he observed during Thursday's testimony offered by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, the woman accusing him of sexual assault, was "two human beings in pain."

And, he added, "this has been an intergalactic freak show" and a "grotesque carnival."

" I don't know what happened to Dr. Ford," said the Louisiana Republican. "I don't know if we will ever know what happened to Dr. Ford. I do believe something very, very, very bad happened to Dr. Ford and I am very sorry, but I do not believe that Judge Brett Kavanaugh was involved. That's why I will support his nomination."

The pain all could have been avoided, but the character assassination has damaged Ford and Kavanaugh and their families irreparably, Kennedy added.

Meanwhile, the United States is not a country without due process, said Kennedy, and he had strong words for the person, "and you know who you are," who did not tell Ford that she could have had the option to testify privately at her home in California.

"You should bow your head in shame, in my opinion, and you should hide your head in a bag every day for the rest of your natural life," said Kennedy. "I don't know if you believe in God or if you read the Bible. But there is wisdom in a passage whether you read the Bible or believe in God or not. And I would refer you to Matthew 16:26. For what is a person profited? For what is a person profited if he gains the whole world and he loses his soul."
