Colorado Gov. Hickenlooper: 'I'm Not Trying to Be VP'

(CBS)

Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper addressed rumors regarding his name appearing on Hillary Clinton's list of potential running mates, saying he's "not trying" to earn a spot on a presidential ticket.

'I'm not trying to be VP. I have the greatest job in the world," said Hickenlooper, a Democrat who has served as Colorado's chief executive since 2011. "I think that list is a very long list and I think that I'm down towards the bottom. That's not a point of contention or a point of real discussion."

Hickenlooper's remarks came during an appearance on "CBS This Morning."

Hickenlooper gained national attention when he, as the mayor of Denver, served as an executive member of Denver's Democratic National Convention Committee. His efforts helped Denver earn hosting duties for the event, and he spoke on the first day of the four-day convention.

A DenverChannel.com report last week said Hickenlooper is on Clinton's shortlist of five potential running mates. He was the subject of vice presidential talk last year as well, which he shot down by saying, "it ain't going to happen."

Hickenlooper was the mayor of Denver from 2003-2011.
