MSNBC's Joe Scarborough on Thursday said he would not vote for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump if he continues to back a temporary ban on Muslims entering the U.S.
"I was surprised and disappointed," the
"Morning Joe" host said, after Trump stood by his proposal to temporarily ban the entry of Muslims.
Scarborough had gone on record with his support for Trump, according to his comments Thursday, but the real estate mogul made clear he still supports the idea of a ban, during an interview Wednesday on
NBC News.
"I'm never going to vote for a guy who says they are going to ban somebody because of the god they worship," Scarborough said. "That's a loser. It's a loser with the majority of Americans."
Scarborough believes the billionaire developer has a "huge mountain to climb" to turn around his statements on minorities and if he does not make a change, he would lose "big time."
Trump would have to show a different opinion on many topics that he has weighed in on, said Scarborough, and he must "do an incredible 180 somehow and change everything he said over the last year," if he wants to win over minority voters.
