MSNBC's "Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough said Tuesday that Donald Trump is neither a racist nor a President Barack Obama birther — it's worse than that.
"This is all a marketing ploy," Scarborough said. A scam.
The panel was discussing whether Trump's heart is into the campaign for president or whether he's just doing "an Andy Kauffman routine."
Scarborough falls on the side of routine, saying Trump is already bored, "not even pretending to play respectable presidential candidate."
"At the end of it, it's like, 'I was a Democrat all along, I can't believe you suckers fell for this,'" Scarborough said.
He went on.
"[Trump] doesn't believe Barack Obama was born in Kenya and I'm not defending him. I say this is even worse that you play it cynically," Scarborough said. "I've known the guy for 12 years and I've never heard him say the first thing that resembles a racist remark.
"And he's just the type of person if you're sitting around the table and someone made a racist remark, he would raise his eyebrows and say, 'Are you kidding me? What are you from, the 1950s?'
"This is all a scam, it's all a marketing routine," Scarborough said.
