President Donald Trump senior adviser Stephen Miller is on a "power trip," according to MSNBC's "Morning Joe" co-host Joe Scarborough Monday.
"Why did Stephen Miller fight so hard to put out this order on Friday without talking to any of the other agencies?" Scarborough said, referring to Trump's immigration travel ban.
"It was Stephen Miller, sitting in the White House, saying, 'We're not going to go to the other agencies, we're not going to talk to the lawyers. We're going to do this all alone."
"You've got a very young person in the White House on a power trip thinking that you can just write executive orders and tell all of your Cabinet agencies to go to hell," Scarborough said.
About the aftermath of Trump's ban, Scarborough said it had a chaotic effect on the political scene. "Washington's in an uproar this morning — forget about what's happening in the street — because Stephen Miller decided he was going to do this without going through the regular interagency process," the host said.
Trump's associates appeared to be concerned about the ban, according to Scarborough, who, along with co-host Mika Brzezinski, met with the president over the weekend.
"Those around him, you could tell there had been discussions. Those around him, I think, believe that this got off very badly for several reasons. First of all, they didn't explain it to the media. They didn't communicate it properly. They didn't explain what it was and what it wasn't. And then, of course, the much, much larger problem was there was no vetting with the agencies."
The president on Friday signed executive orders that put an indefinite ban on Syrian refugees, denied entry into the U.S. for residents of seven mostly-Muslim countries, and put a four-month halt on the U.S. refugee resettlement program.
