Manchin to Flynn: Help 'Prove Your Innocence'

MSNBC's "Morning Joe"

Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., has called upon former national security adviser Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn to help the Senate Intelligence Committee prove his "innocence," on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" Thursday.

When asked by political analyst Nicolle Wallace about Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., who said that the intelligence committee must "get to the bottom" of Flynn's ties to foreign countries, Manchin said, "I agree 1,000 percent, we need to get to the bottom."

"Don't make us dig and dig and dig like we're trying to find you guilty," he said.

"We just want justice done. We want the people of the United States of America to look at our findings, [and] what we've come up with from the intelligence that gives us the facts. We've said this: You're entitled to your opinion, but you're not entitled to your own facts."

He added that he could not comprehend why Flynn has been less cooperative than former President Donald Trump's associate Paul Manafort, who is also being investigated.

"You know what I can't understand, Nicolle, is that we have people that if they're being accused — and these are horrible accusations," Manchin added. "They truly are. Paul Manafort has been turning over, and trying to prove his innocence and been cooperating. Mike Flynn has not."

When asked why he thought that is, Manchin could not answer.

"The only thing I can tell Mr. Flynn is: Mike, work with us," he said. "It's like extracting a tooth. It is painful, I know. It's something you don't want to do, I understand. But come and work with us. Help us prove your innocence."

He continued, "We'll decipher the facts, and we will come up to whatever conclusion we need to. But help us. Don't continue to drag this thing on."

Manchin ended his plea with a warning, "But, if you're trying to hide something because you know you did something wrong, you took money, you compromised the United States of America, we are not going to let that happen, we are not going to let people get by with that."
