Former Vice President Joe Biden will keynote the Human Rights Campaign dinner next weekend, helping the country’s largest LGBTQ advocacy group as it gears up for the midterms, Politico announced on Wednesday.
HRC President Chad Griffin said on the organization’s website that Biden “is a strong voice for the vulnerable and a bold advocate for LGBTQ people,” adding that “from his earliest days in the U.S. Senate to his eight years as vice president, Joe Biden has been a bold and tireless champion of equality.”
Earlier this month, Biden launched an awareness campaign to promote the importance of family acceptance of LGBTQ youth, according to CBS News.
The video campaign featured the former vice president, pop singer Cyndi Lauper, former NFL player Wade Davis, and numerous LGBTQ advocates in an attempt to help those, particularly under the age of 25, who continue to face rejection at home and throughout their daily lives.
HRC has been concentrating its efforts for the November midterms on six states — Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Nevada and Arizona, as well as 35 targeted House districts elsewhere, Politico reported.
Biden, who is considering running for president in 2020, but has put off any decisions on the matter until after the midterms, will be joined at the dinner by former Attorney General Eric Holder, who’s also expressed presidential ambitions for 2020, and Stacey Abrams, the Democratic candidate for governor in Georgia.
