Vice President Joe Biden spent months deciding whether to launch a third bid for the presidency — but he knew from the start he wanted Sen. Elizabeth Warren as his running mate, Politico reports.

Biden mentioned the liberal Massachusetts lawmaker as his potential pick during early strategy meetings with top staffers, sources tell Politico.

Warren was "noncommittal" but "not displeased" when Biden told her he wanted her on a possible ticket, an unnamed source tells Politico.

According to Politico, progressives have begun pitching Warren as a possible Clinton vice presidential pick to heal the divisions between the center and left of the Democratic Party — and Warrant hasn't totally dismissed the suggestion.

Earlier this week, Biden said he'd have been the "best president" had he decided to run and won the general election.
