Rep. Jody Hice, R-Ga., told Newsmax TV on Wednesday that “stores have the right” to require that customers wear masks during the coronavirus pandemic, though he said he doesn’t “believe it’s necessary” that they do.
Stores across the country have begun putting notices that they are requiring customers to wear face masks while inside the store.
Hice told “National Report” that “certainly stores have the right, I suppose, legally to require all individuals who come into those stores to wear masks, provided they don't discriminate. If they are required for everyone, I suppose they can do it. I don't believe it's necessary in order, I believe it’s a wise thing to do. We’re certainly not seeing that in Georgia, and we continue to see the number of cases decline.”
He added, “Look, we know how to social distance, and the American people are able to take care of themselves wisely without government, or even in some cases stores, requiring everyone to wear a mask, I don’t think it’s necessary at all.”
