Lamenting the political opportunism of fellow governors trashing the White House coronavirus task force in the media while praising the officials on the calls, West Virginia GOP Gov. Jim Justice told Newsmax TV that President Donald Trump has delivered "results."
"He takes flak all the time," Justice told Wednesday "Greg Kelly Reports."
"Anybody who has any sense at all would have to say that managing this level of crisis, managing a pandemic that nobody has had any idea what to do, but managing it and having the results that this man has had, honest to Pete, it is amazing," he added. "We should all be really grateful."
Justice also praised the West Virginia healthcare workers, officials, and residents for helping the state be one of the leaders in the nation amid the global coronavirus pandemic.
"We're going to take baby steps before we run, but I really believe we're on top of this," he said. "The good people of West Virginia are the ones that deserve the credit."
Justice reported nation-leading testing per capita has revealed just "2.66% positives" of COVID-19 in his state, which is going to progressively reinstate the White House task force Reopening America Again guidelines.
He vows to stick to a date-driven approach and refuses to speed up the reopening, if anything they might only slow down if the data points to it.
"We may hit a bump in the road," he said. "If we hit a bump in the road, we slow down or stop and back up."
Despite having comprehensive testing, only seven states have fewer COVID-19 positives than West Virginia (1,109), and only six states have fewer deaths than the state's 40 to date, according to Worldometers, which culls data from Johns Hopkins University, health officials data, and recent media reports.
