Conservative Group FreedomWorks Backs Jim Jordan for Speaker

A conservative and libertarian group is throwing its weight behind Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, to serve as House speaker.

FreedomWorks posted a link on its Twitter account to a petition that calls for Jordan to replace House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis.

"President Trump needs a strong, conservative Speaker of the House who will take on Mitch & Nancy," the tweet reads. "He needs Congressman Jim Jordan. But Rep. Jordan's still deciding whether he should run. Sign the petition to draft conservative champion Jim Jordan!"

Jordan is a member of the House Freedom Caucus and formerly served as its chairman.

Speaker Ryan announced last week he will not run for re-election, which has sparked conversation about who will serve as speaker next January.

Jordan said earlier this week he is "certainly open to" running for the speakership, as some of his colleagues have urged him to run.
