Rep. Van Drew to Newsmax: Dems to Open 'Gates of Hell' on Trump

By    |   Thursday, 28 December 2023 07:07 PM EST

Rep. Jeff Van Drew, R-N.J., told Newsmax on Thursday that as the 2024 election draws near, the Democrats will "open the gates of hell" against former President Donald Trump because they're desperate, thinking they'll lose their chance to radically transform America if he wins the presidency.

"The real deal here for these folks is that they want to change America as we know it," Van Drew said during an appearance on Newsmax's "The Chris Salcedo Show." "They want to change America forever.

"I'm gonna warn people that are watching and listening to you right now: They've only started. As we get closer and closer to the election, they are going to open the gates of hell against Donald Trump because they are desperate. They don't want to lose. They don't want to bring this country back home; and they know if Donald Trump wins, that's exactly what's going to happen. So this is going to be some tough sledding.

"I mean, the 14th Amendment?" he continued, referring to the attempt in Colorado to remove Trump from the primary ballot. "What they're doing here doesn't apply to him. He hasn't been charged. He hasn't been indicted. He hasn't been convicted. The judges that voted for this in Colorado — and I mean this and I don't say it lightly — they should resign. Whether you're a liberal judge or a conservative judge, for God's sake, it was always true in the United States of America that you believed in the rule of law. They do not believe in the rule of law. They're purely partisan hacks at the worst level. But it's everywhere; it's everything that we're seeing."

The New Jersey congressman specified that "everything" includes "the borders," "what we're doing to our military," and "what we're teaching our kids in schools."

"This is an overall picture to change the substance and structure of the United States of America," he said.

On Thursday afternoon, Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold said Trump's name will remain on the Centennial State's GOP primary ballot "unless the U.S. Supreme Court declines to take the case or otherwise affirms the Colorado Supreme Court ruling."

The Colorado Republican Party asked the high court on Thursday to hear the case, which seeks to disqualify Trump using a section of the 14th Amendment, following the state Supreme Court's ruling earlier this month that barred the former president from the ballot.

While no set timeline exists for when the Supreme Court must take up the case, Griswold urged the justices "to act quickly given the upcoming presidential primary election" in a post on X.
