Former Congressman Jason Chaffetz told Fox’s “Hannity”  that he would consider challenging fellow Utah resident and Republican Sen. Mitt Romney after his guilty vote against former President Donald Trump in the impeachment trial.

Chaffetz represented Utah’s 3rd Congressional District in the House of Representatives from 2009 to 2017 but decided not to run for reelection and is now a Fox contributor.

The Utah Republican Party declined to censure Romney, who is up for reelection as a senator from Utah in 2024.

Instead the state's GOP stated that “we look forward to each senator explaining their votes to the people of Utah,” according to The Epoch Times.

But other Republicans in the state are endorsing a draft censure motion, declaring that Romney betrayed the party and the Constitution with his guilty vote.

"Romney used and uses his senatorial power and influence to undermine Republican President Donald J. Trump,” the motion states.

Romney explained his vote by issuing a statement that said “Trump attempted to corrupt the election by pressuring the Secretary of State of Georgia to falsify the election results in his state. President Trump incited the insurrection against Congress by using the power of his office to summon his supporters to Washington on January 6th and urging them to march on the Capitol during the counting of electoral votes ... President Trump also violated his oath of office by failing to protect the Capitol, the Vice President, and others in the Capitol.”
