During an appearing on Fox News, Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., on Tuesday was asked about rumors Ivanka Trump is considering challenging him in the next primary in 2022.
"I like Ivanka Trump very much," Rubio said when asked about the rumor on "Your World with Neil Cavuto." "We work together very well. I never heard her say that."
But Rubio said anyone is free to challenge him, and he knows every race is a tough one.
"Bottom line is that she's a resident of Florida," he said. "Any resident of Florida who is 30 years of age can run to be the Republican nominee, can run to be the U.S. Senator as an independent or a Democrat."
"None of us are entitled to run unopposed," he noted. "People have a right to run against you."
Rubio told Cavuto, "They're always tough races. I've known that."
The president's daughter has made no public statements about the rumors, and Florida's other Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., who also serves as chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, has said he will support any incumbent senator against any challenger that former President Donald Trump backs, The Daily Caller reported.
