President-elect Donald Trump kicked off inauguration celebrations Thursday praising his Cabinet picks and supportive lawmakers – and the "total genius" who built the hotel where the event took place.

According to The Washington Post, Trump turned what is normally a "staid lunch" at the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C., into "an irreverent celebration of Washington's new power players."

"This is a gorgeous room," Trump remarked, looking around at his own hotel, the Post reported. "A total genius must have built this place."

Then admiring his Cabinet nominees, Trump declared, "We have by far the highest IQ of any Cabinet ever assembled" – but Trump made some news as well, announcing New York Jets owner Woody Johnson would be his ambassador to the U.K., the Post reported.

Trump also lauded GOP senators and congressmen attending the event, including House Speaker Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, who Trump recalled had once been a sharp critic – but not any longer.

"He's got so much legislation to write — and he's actually got somebody who's going to sign it," Trump said, the Post reported.

And pointing out South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, his nominee for ambassador to the United Nations, Trump predicted "we're going to do a lot of great things, Nikki, right?" when he sends "her over to speak to China."

He also praised Georgia Rep. Tom Price, Trump's health and human services secretary nominee who came under fire at his confirmation hearing, saying, "They wanted to end his career so fast," the Post reported.
